Dutch Windmill // Friesland, The Netherlands
In 2020 I went on holiday in my own country, The Netherlands. With the caravan on a campsite in the province of Friesland. Why Friesland? I hadn't actually been there often and I wanted to discover this beautiful province. It is a province with many lakes, a beautiful wadden region on the North Sea, great for walking around and enjoying nature. But the old villages and towns were also very nice to see. That's how I was in the historic city of Dokkum. A beautiful old town with fantastic photographic hotspots. Like this old Dutch windmill. Dutch culture at its best.

The windmill is photographed from a frog's perspective, because of this you get the feeling that the windmill is very large. Which was of course true, but the feeling is magnified. The clouds fill the background and seem to float away. This makes it an exciting whole. And by also converting the photo into black and white, it gets a dramatic atmosphere.

In this photo the mill is taken straight from the front, so you can see more of the mill. Due to the white background and the black and white conversion, this entire photo revolves around the windmill and you are not distracted by anything else. The photo has a nostalgic feeling, of course, this fits well with the subject.

Authentieke Friese windmolen
In 2020 ben ik op vakantie in eigen land geweest. Met de caravan op een camping in de provincie Friesland. Waarom Friesland? Ik was daar eigenlijk nog niet vaak geweest en ik wilde deze mooie provincie wel eens ontdekken. Het is een provincie met heel veel meren, een prachtig waddengebied aan de Noordzee, heerlijk om rond te wandelen en te genieten van de natuur.
Maar ook de oude dorpen en steden waren erg tof om te zien. Zo was ik ook in de historische stad Dokkum. Een mooie oude stad met fantastische fotografische hotspots. Zoals deze oude windmolen. Nederlandse cultuur ten top.

De windmolen is vanuit een kikkerperspectief gefotografeerd hier door krijg je je het gevoel dat de molen erg groot is. Wat ook zo was natuurlijk, maar het gevoel word zo vergroot. De wolken vullen de achtergrond en lijken zo weg te drijven. Hierdoor word het een spannend geheel. En door de foto ook nog in zwart-wit om te zetten krijgt het een dramatisch sfeertje.

Op deze foto is de molen recht van voren genomen, waardoor je meer molen ziet. Door de witte achtergrond en de zwart-wit omzetting draait deze hele foto om de windmolen en wordt je nergens anders door afgeleid. De foto heeft een nostalgisch gevoel dat past natuurlijk goed bij het onderwerp.

End of the tunnel
We all have this feeling right now. When can we go again....
Cuddling with our loved ones, our dear children when can they go back to school, going out with your family, going out for dinner with your friends and so on. We all miss this so much.
This photo kind of reflects that feeling. Is the light visible at the end? Are we almost there yet? Years ago this photo was taken somewhere in the Netherlands, to be honest I don't remember where it was. But the environment grabbed me. The raw feeling of the black, loneliness and mystery. Do you feel it too?

Einde van tunnel
Dit gevoel hebben we momenteel allemaal wel. Wanneer mogen we weer....
Knuffelen met onze dierbare, onze lieve kinderen die weer naar school mogen, gezellig erop uit met je familie, stappen en uit eten gaan met je vrienden en ga zo maar door. We missen dit allemaal zo.
Deze foto geeft dat gevoel een beetje weer. Is het licht aan het eind al zichtbaar? Zijn we er al bijna? Jaren geleden maakte ik deze foto ergens in Nederland, eerlijk gezegd ik weet niet meer waar het was. Maar de omgeving pakte me. Het rauwe gevoel van het zwarte, eenzaamheid en de mysterie. Voel jij het ook?
